A few thoughts before I get to work

I haven't been getting many posts in these days. Work has been hectic and busy and what free time I have has been spent working out. I recently paid for private swim lessons and man what I workout that is. I was never a very strong swimmer (in fact on two occasions in my life I nearly drowned) so I decided I wanted to do something about it. Here's what I've discovered so far: swimming is WORK! There's a rhythm and timing involved that takes a lot of practice. Like many things in the natural world a smooth relaxed pace gets you a lot farther than frantic thrashing but I guess like everyone else in life you have to go through your share of thrashing before you find that out. Live and learn.

I've also begun CrossFit workouts. I've been training off and on with weights for close to 30 years but I discovered of late that I was in a rut. Even all the running I had done this year was failing to hold off that stale feeling. With CrossFit, the workouts are posted online and you complete them on your own. They should run no longer than 30 minutes maximum but the results and the feeling are incredible. I've only done eight or so workouts in the past ten days but I can feel (and even see) the difference already in my body.

I'm cleaning up what I eat also. I've eliminated sugars from my diet and processed foods. OK, nix that. Last night I ordered a Pizza Hut pizza. I didn't realize till I opened the box how processed that crap is. My stomach was upset well into today. I won't be making that mistake again. Still, I've been leaning toward meats, fruits and veggies and healthier grains. Juices and water for beverages. If coffee is wrong, though, I don't wanna be right.

I've been watching movies also lately but I think I'm gonna be delving back into my books starting tonight.

I'll be house sitting for another four weeks or so and the house I'm staying in has a professional military library. I'd like to make as much use of that material as possible. It's good stuff and not books you'd find at BN or on Amazon.

I was offered a block of time off for Christmas but I don't know if I'll take it. I can't go anywhere because of the pets I'm taking care of anyway. Still, a few days off might be a good thing once a month. I wanna get a surf trip in next month too. Bali, I think.

I guess if I could change anything or even complain it'd be that it just doesn't feel like Christmas here. I miss that. I'm sitting in the American Club and there are decorations hanging along with bad carols playing but I'm just not feeling it. Oh well, you can't have everything.
